baildon house extension

We were commissioned to develop design proposals for a 1990s developer-built house on a small housing estate in Baildon. The house had particularly ungenerous ceiling heights of circa 2.3 metres at ground floor and our design uses natural light and short and long range views to create a better sense of space and volume, with the addition of a small rear extension.

The scheme includes a new first floor home office with commanding views over the adjacent countryside. At ground floor, part of the rear of the house has been demolished and replaced with a new full width single storey extension that creates a bigger kitchen and improves the connection between both the kitchen and the dining room and the back garden. New large glazed openings to kitchen and dining room provide views and access to the garden and the reconfigured kitchen is more efficiently organised with a social island unit. It includes a new sitting area lit from above by a skylight. A contemporary palette of materials is employed externally with zinc cladding at first floor and through-colour rendered walls at ground floor. The main extension is planted with sedums to create a green roof.

We provided a full planning service and a detailed technical package of information, with on site assistance as required during the construction period. The project was completed in 2023.
