embsay house extension

We were commissioned to develop proposals for the full renovation and extension of a compact bungalow located on the edge of Embsay, overlooking open fields within the Yorkshire Dales National Park. The scheme involved internal reconfiguration of living, dining and kitchen spaces providing improved visual and physical connections to the rear garden and its wider landscape views. A first floor extension allowed the house bathroom to be relocated from the ground floor alongside a new master bedroom suite, resulting in the creation of a three bedroom property.

The design solution is a new rear gable at first floor and a shallow ground floor extension that includes a bay window, glazed external pocket doors and a new canopy. The dining room now connects directly to the garden with the view at the rear of the house now able to be enjoyed whilst seated at the dining table. Existing and new areas of the external building envelope have been insulated and rendered to improve thermal efficiency.

We provided a full planning service and a detailed technical package of information for the self-build owner who runs his own construction company. The project was completed in 2023.
