performance hub

We completed a short design study looking at approaches to retrofitting and altering a former warehouse building which has been earmarked for use as an arts and performance hub as part of the buildings strategy for Bradford City of Culture 2025.

The vacant warehouse stands four storeys above ground with a two storey basement and is located in a central city location. It is a concrete-framed building, currently with poor circulation and limited natural lighting designed in as part of its previous functional requirements. It nevertheless offers great potential to create an arts venue and managed workspaces that could successfully re-animate two currently stymied streets in the centre of the city.

Our strategy opened up two facades at ground level to create active frontages connecting onto a multi-level foyer, box office and concourse area, designed to improve accessibility, visibility and to increase footfall.
